The gaming world is abuzz with the news that Acclaim Entertainment, a name synonymous with 90s gaming, is making a comeback. After more than two decades, the iconic publisher is set to re-enter the industry, with a renewed focus on supporting indie developers and breathing new life into its classic franchises.

Acclaim, known for publishing hits like “Mortal Kombat,” “NBA Jam,” and “Turok,” faced bankruptcy in 2004. Now, a team of industry veterans, led by CEO Alex Josef, is bringing the brand back with a modern approach.  

A Dual Focus:

  • Empowering Indie Developers:
    • A core part of Acclaim’s revival strategy is to provide indie studios with vital resources, including funding, marketing, and PR support. This initiative aims to help smaller developers reach a wider audience and bring their creative visions to fruition.
  • Revitalizing Classic IPs:
    • Acclaim also plans to “resurrect and revitalize” its beloved catalog of classic games. While specific titles have yet to be announced, the promise of bringing back iconic franchises has generated significant excitement among fans.

Leadership and Vision:

  • CEO Alex Josef, with over 20 years of experience in the gaming industry, is at the helm of Acclaim’s resurgence.  
  • An advisory board comprising industry leaders like Russell Binder (Striker Entertainment), Mark Caplan (Ridge Partners), and Jeff Jarrett (Global Force Entertainment) will provide strategic guidance.

  • The re introduction of classic gaming IP’s, will provide a sense of nostalgia for older gamers, while also providing those IP’s to a newer generation of gamers.
